Ok, so he has a big nose, big ears, snores, hogs the covers, is hairy, and won't let me go to the bathroom by myself. At least he loves me unconditionally!!! :super:

And he likes the smell of my feet!

His name is Titan and he's about 3 1/2 months old and already about 40lbs! :yellowlau He's an AKC German Shepherd and the sweetest boy. He was purchased for me by my husband (cough) because my 14 year old Blue Heeler Duke passed away this winter and that was my watch dog. So far, Titan is a horrible watch dog and he'll only bark at my Italian Greyhound and the cat! Oh well, at least he's cute!

Years ago I developed a website for a German Shepherd breeder so got up close and personal with the breed. They're great dogs. Enjoy him...

He's totally the best! :trophy: Thanks!

He was bred and born on the ranch I train at. So I have had the benefit of knowing both parents for years before I (or should I say, he picked my daughter and I at 4 weeks!) purchased him. Whenever I'm having a bad night, he'll lay beside me on my pillow and I'll hug him, cry into his neck and he just lays there. When I'm done, he licks my eyes and goes to sleep. He is such a great dog!

The new man in my life!
Hey Amy! http://abestweb.com/smilies/grrr.gif

:D

After the day that I had today, yersterday or wth, ... in the last 24 hrs...

You almost gave me a heart attack with that title!

I just came here now to get my daily ABW fix before I go to bed, but when I saw your new thread title "The new man in my life!", I almost mentally blaspheme you before I even opened this thread. :yellowlau

For a second I thought that you was talking about a new real man in your life! http://abestweb.com/smilies/slapface.gif

So I was about to http://abestweb.com/smilies/kickass.gif your http://abestweb.com/smilies/butthead.gif !

But now I see that you and I have some of the same kind of sarcastic way of expressing our feelings when our other ½ get on our bad side. :D

----------

Just let's know when your new man bites your old man http://abestweb.com/smilies/butthead.gif one of this days, we're still tuned to that soap opera, so don't change the channel, OK? - We hate cliffhangers! http://abestweb.com/smilies/wolf.gif

All I could think was "ALREADY?!"

Now that I see he's actually a big dog...all I can think of is one word:

Rosebud. (http://www.columbo-site.freeuk.com/dialm2.htm)

(kidding!)

ROFLMAO!!! That would be Titan! A really weird guy came to the house yesterday to sell magazine subscriptions and while the Italian Greyhound was foaming at the mouth all Titan did was come to the gate with a toy and wanted to make friends.....lol

There's a funny story behind his name. His registered name is Live Titan Radar (partly cuz of the big ears...lol) Live Titan Radar is the satelite imaging used by the weather forecaster in Columbus on the NBC station. This being one of the worse winters around here there were some weeks I couldn't make it out to the ranch to spend time with him while he was still with his litter because the roads were so bad. Everyday I was glued to the weather so I knew what to expect. So there's his name. That and Titan is short for Titanic!! He's prob gonna be about 120lbs :p

What a sweetie! If he grows into those ears I don't doubt he'll be 120 pounds. Sheesh! Those are some big ears.

Congrats on your new baby. I hope you have many happy years together.

Thanks Rhea and Ladidah =]

Oh Rhea, you should see him around Kahlua, too funny! He's terrified of her and all she wants to do is play with him. LOL He'll go to the fence line and if she tries to sniff him he runs behind my legs!

Beautiful! My next dog will be a German Shepard. Do they shed a lot?

Rhea
May 8th, 2008, 10:05 AM
German Shepherds do shed a lot. In clumps, even. But I've seen very shaggy, hairy GSs that shed like mad and some that are smoother and don't shed so much. Same breed, just different coat styles. You have to see the puppies and the mom, too to get an idea of how shaggy the pups will become but you should also talk to breeders.

Read about coat qualities in GSs here http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/info/15.html

The best watchdog we've ever had is our female Standard Poodle. I believe she would kill for us and die for us, too. Some breeds have better reputations as good watchdogs than others but it varies a lot because individual dogs have a lot of variability in terms of protectiveness toward their family.

I currently have a rottie/shepard mix who I am certain would lay down his life for a cookie.
He's the best dog in the world, but time is catching up with him. I might consider getting a rottie, if I could get the puppy early. I would love to rescue, but so many have just been abused and are agressive by the time the shelter gets them!

guinness, the best way I've found to adopt a dog is through your vet. They almost always know of available dogs that are not necessarily "damaged goods." A big advantage of adopting through a vet is that you can get access to the dog's medical records so you know if they've had any problems (medical, behavioral). I find this works much better than adopting a dog from a pound and you're probably saving some poor doggie from winding up at the pound, which just traumatizes them further.

great idea rhea! I never considered that! Guinness (the dog) was found by friends tied to a picnic table in the middle of a city park. Just 5 months old.
We adopted Jack dog at 3 months from a non-profit animal adoption organization who had set up outside a PetSmart. They had his medical records.
I am trying to convince my husband that we need a cat now.

has anyone ever tried the furminator? Heather Armstrong features it on her blog today under "Daily Chuck" and it's supposed to be awesome

CowgirlUp
May 8th, 2008, 11:19 AM
Furminator's are the gods gift to double coated dog owners!! :)

They are great for short haired dogs too, but a must have with a GSD! They shed 365 days a year!

All of my pets, with the exception of Titan and my horse Kahlua, are rescues or adoptees. I always say they are the best because they know they have been given a second chance
