I have my own website but have never been able to place top 10 in the search engines. I have read about SEO and even tried to optimize to achieve better positioning without any results.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? I really don't know what I am doing wrong. I am not a professional developer, I am self taught, but have been writing html for years.

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

The thing is that there are zero guarantees when it comes to SEO. If someone guarantees you something you should run the other way. When you use a mass directory or blog submit or blast, think about it, every other company in the world has had access to that same tool and done the same thing devaluing the actual SEO benefits of the tool, the baclinks etc... The best thing you could do is to not worry about your SEO and worry about how to give your end users the best experience possible. Your rankings will follow as you achieve this.

If you still decide to look elsewhere for help, I'd be happy to talk to you and some of the other OPM firms on here offer SEO services as well. You may want to write to them too. adam @ downtownecommerce.com. Also please feel free to call if you have any SEO or other questions and I'm happy to help answer them (If you do not want to ask them publicly).

You can submit your site for review and get tips from others who all do SEO on their own sites - and it's free. A very good way to find out your weak points.

Hi, PPC was the safest way to go up until just a few years ago, but now SEO is very powerful and with a reasonably priced 2-4 weeks campaign you can reach your target, unless you are in a niche where the competition is fierce.

The first thing to check is your meta tags. The format of your meta tags have to follow a certain structure.
