It's actually healthier to drink water at room temp, ice isn't really good for you. I've been slowly moving away from ice water for that reason. Thanks for sharing.

You'd love Scotland. The pancakes are cold and the beer is warm.

I think that's kinda the reason it's not healthy, it puts your body through undue stress to balance your core temperature.

It's really interesting. I did a little research on Google and there's very little mention of ice water being unhealthy. In fact there are quite a few sites that say it helps burn calories. But in Chinese culture it's almost common sense that ice water is no good. So the burning calories thing is definitely a Western thing and I'm a bit wary of it.

Looks cool, it's a pretty amazing city. I was in Berlin last year for their beer festival, plenty of drunk people at that. Basically one street was changed in to a 2.5 km beer garden with a hundred or so bars along the length. It's the first weekend in August if anyone's interested.

Sweet pics. I was there a few years ago and had a similar experience, except I love German food.
BTW the name of the bombed out church is the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.

Hi everybody - I just found this thread and it was quite amusing, cause I am from Germany.
Not from Berlin, but from Hamburg - This city is the prettiest one and the people are more friendly than in Berlin ;-)

Hi Dennis & willkommen to ABW. I've never been to Hamburg, maybe one day I will and check out the original Hamburgers. I have only been to Berlin, Trier and some small towns along the Moselle/Rhine rivers on a wine tasting holiday.

Awesome pics - looks like you managed to have a great time despite the lack of ice, water and despite the rude folks, etc.
My youngest bro is there right now actually - went to compete in a gymnastics competition. I'd love to go someday.

I think most of the rest of the world drinks the carbonated stuff more regularly than the plain bottled stuff we do. Anytime I've been to Cuba you have to ask for agua sin gas or they bring you carbonated as well. The European tourists (most of which are from Germany, actually) don't raise an eyebrow but the Canadians usually send it back. LOL

Hi markschok, thanks!
I only can advise everybody to visit Hamburg. It is one of the most beautiful cities :-)
Cocnenringt the water topic:
You are right, here in Germany, we usually drink carbonated water. You have to tell the waiter if you want to have water without gas. But it is not that extraordinary anymore ;-)
