We didn't get a photo of the cop by the side of the road, yes he was there with his flashers on so cars would know to stop. Traffic was halted while Bessie et al crossed over to go to the barn for dinner.

More here (http://nightfireproductions.com/gallery/v/familyandfriends/roadtripjune08/cows/)

Nice - add a smily face in the middle of the road and you'd think someone had too much time on their hands.

LOL - Just like here, except for the cop. We have the local rabbits direct traffic when necessary. ;-)

Cute!

These cows crossing the road remind me of a time here in Shamrock, TX one of the town :cop: cops, who is also a rancher, cowboy, :cowboy: (I think cattle rustler too). Totally stopped traffic on Interstate 40 and Rt 66, to move his cattle across to another pasture, of course he was on horseback :bullwhip: and had his helpers herding his cattle across the very busy highway, in the middle of the day. Wow you see it all in Texas. Also when the movie :filmstrip "Cars" :car: came out, (the movie modeled one of the buildings in the movie after one on Rt. 66 here in Shamrock, called U-Drop Inn, it was rendered in the movie as Ramones body shop, I think.) Well back to the story, In the movie they showed them moving cattle across route 66 and stopping traffic to do it. I think when the people who made the movie were in town studying the building to reproduce it, they sit around and visited with some of the local folk, and heard many stories from the old timers :grandpa: around here, a few things in the movie reminded me of things that had actually happened in this small Rt. 66 town. Especially the one about the cop stopping traffic for his cattle crossing.

I was looking for a smilie that represented Rt. 66.
and the smilie face on the road was awesome, something you would see in Rural America, :usaflag: Clover's :clover: are painted on the streets of this small town of Shamrock a lot, especially during St. Patrick's celebration and Football :football: season, It's like :cheerlead support the team, paint :artist: a clover :clover: on the road to the school.

And the comment about someone having too much time on their hands probably drew the smilie face....That is another thing that happens in Rural America, :usaflag: that and cow :cow: tippin'.

OMG I can't believe I just spent so much time searching for smilies, oh well it was fun. Gotta get busy now.

When we were planning which roads to take (fast or scenic), I told my son I had made the trip once before and the coolest thing was being stopped while a heard of Buffalo crossed the road. My son was excited.

Of course we passed a million Deer Crossing, Cow Crossing, Cattle Crossings signs - with no actual animal crossings. And Jesse was starting to give me a hard time.

Thank goodness we were on that particular road at just the right time... I was vindicated!

what type of animal crossed? What part of the country were you in? We have all kind of wildlife here in the Panhandle of TX.

I had posted in the other photo thread that I was on a road tip with Billy and his son. I just forgot to say that over in this one, cause I thought people would look in the other ones... Since we all live in Vegas and like to travel we take frequent, usually shorter than this one, road trips.

That is awesome. It is good to get to know both of you. and Billy's son is Jesse? I think I got it.

He did a good job even with the bug splats on the windshield.

My Dad is a photographer by hobby. He takes some awesome pics I will have to send you some someday.

You were lucky you had your camera ready. This past summer I drove around the wreckage of a cow and a truck. Not so pretty when a collision happens..... maybe they should have painted the smiley face on the road down here.... it might have prevented the loss of old bessy....

lol, if you read around here much more you will realize that although I am an affiliate manager I am also a pro photographer and NEVER am far from a camera. Sometimes people *don't* like to travel with me because I stop frequently to take photos!
