Register is under new ownership and new management. Best of all they listen to us here at AffiliateCrew. We have always taken a stance against parasites, BHO's and adware affiliates. Register has agreed to let us clean-up the program in an effort to make it affiliate centric.

More good news on the horizon, this is only the beginning.

Let the cleansing begin!!

Register.com at 9.99 with the huge payouts (up to 50% ), shoot that's what I call a slam dunk!

I saw you've also dropped the Hammer on the pre-existing parasites in the program, so it's a no brainer now. WTG Hammer!

Got a great suggestion from sfcom, how about a dual contest, 5 FREE Domains or $50 CASH. Register.com thought it was a great idea!

If you need more time to make that quota we can extend the contest through Feb. 10th.

by Larry Kutscher, Tuesday, Feb 5, 2008 7:15 AM ET

THIS SUNDAY, LIKE MOST OF the country, I tuned in to the Super Bowl to cheer for our local team, the NY Giants (even though I'm a Jets fan at heart) and to see all the latest ads that debuted.

I really enjoyed many of the ads, but it was hard for me not to dwell on one of our biggest competitor's spots. I'm sure GoDaddy feels their ad worked well, but it pained me to watch the "exposure" ad because I think it completely missed the mark on what our industry is all about.

For the money they spent, they could have such a positive impact on helping small businesses understand the power of the Web. But instead of explaining how easy it has become for ordinary people with little to no technical knowledge to have a great Web site, for the fourth year in a row, GoDaddy has run a commercial in the Super Bowl that doesn't talk about its customers, its services, or even what they do. Instead, it has elected to focus on scantily clad women and shock value for the purpose of creating some buzz.

I couldn't help wondering how many of the people watching the Super Bowl even know what GoDaddy does? If I was a small business owner looking for a partner to help me be successful online (find a domain name, design my Web site, figure out search engine optimization, etc.) would I really want to do business with a company whose Web site caters to teenage boys?

Small businesses everywhere have realized they need to use the Web to take their business to the next level. If you're a small business owner looking to build a Web site, or to better leverage the site you already have--a Web services partner is critical to your success. So the question, once again, is: Do you want to do business with a company that has deliberately chosen to pursue an advertising persona akin to a bad used car salesman telling off-color jokes?

I think you're absolutely on target regarding GoDaddy's bizarre obsession over sexy = good webhosting -- or something like that. I, like you, am convinced that a ton of people out there no nothing about what GoDaddy is or does, simply that, "Oh, yeah, aren't those the guys who showed Danica Patrick stripping??"

I realize the time honored truth that "sex sells" must be what's behind their marketing philosophy. But in their case, they should make that "sex sells, what?" They seem to have forgotten a lot of people out there know zero about webhosting. But I guess they aren't targeting anyone who needs educating. I dunno.

BTW -- my son's initial comment to that commercial was, "Jeez, looks like her racing career must really be going downhill, huh?"

Don't underestimate your buying public, folks. Or overestimate them, either.

Sex sells. Plain and simple.

I'll bet it was successful. Even if it means they only got to sweep a million more potential domain names from under their customers noses.

writerguy
February 7th, 2008, 06:15 PM
Yeah, Kevin, I'm sure you're right. GoDaddy probably wouldn't have spent the money for sex-oriented Super Bowl commercials the last 3 or 4 years if it wasn't getting them SOME kind of measurable ROI. After all, those Super Bowl commercials cost a big bundle.

Isnt this the same offer you are making everyone?

http://www.register.com/promo/acquisitions_8772090537.rcmx?trkID=SEMJ78Vw4W

Isnt the second year and any extra years $35?

Is it possible to transfer before the year is up incurring no fees? I am not trying to be difficult but $35 a year seems like 1999 to me.

Chuck Hamrick
March 31st, 2008, 04:48 PM
andbeyond, this was offered by Register for the affiliate channel to not only get a free domain but receive information on additional products. At the time of the offer it is tied to their full price domains but you have the ability to move to a different registrar. We are working to get these into the $9.99 renewal product.

At minimum if give affiliates a free domain for 11 months to try another site on.

Congratulations! The Register.com Affiliate Program (http://www.register.com/about/affiliate.rcmx) is one of the select few that meet LinkShare’s “Premium Partner Program” criteria.

LinkShare (http://www.linkshare.com/) talked to hundreds of our top publishers to find out the characteristics of their best advertiser partners. In addition, they asked their Publisher Advisory Board to help distill that information into specific criteria for identifying the advertisers that publishers most prefer to work with.

Premium Partner advertisers must meet and maintain the following criteria:

Respond to all transaction inquiries within 10 business days
Promptly authorize publisher payments so publishers are paid at the end of the following month
Have seven or more return days
Provide valid and complete contact information in your profile
Be active and in good standing with LinkShare
