Hi everyone. I've been piloting a new concept since June and am excited to tell you about it.
We've opened a new online store offering super-healthy "meal kits" as well as unique, nutritious whole-food ingredients. For the meals, since we don't want to pre-cook them or add preservatives, we're shipping all of the ingredients chopped and measured and mostly assembled - customers just need to spend a few minutes stirring and adding an ingredient or two from their fridge (e.g. milk, or an egg). Think cake mix! And for the ingredients, we've worked hard to find whole food items like unique 100% whole grains (e.g. kamut and quinoa pasta), healthier sweeteners like Sucanet, or great-tasting snacks with healthy nuts like almonds.
In the U.S. at least, we're doing a pretty lousy job eating well, and we believe this is because: a) people are confused about what 'healthy' means, b) they think healthy doesn't mean tasty, and c) they assume they don't have the time or money to make better choices. We address each of these by selecting products with fundamentally great nutrition (whole foods without additives or preservatives), developing awesome recipes that families will love, and then selling either the complete meal kits (with everything selected, chopped, and measured), or the individual ingredients.
Our products seem to do best with moms who have young kids (disclaimer: I'm a dad with 3 boys under 7 so I know this audience best!), and especially moms who 1) don't have time to cook every night and are looking for healthier alternatives to fast food or pizza, and 2) like to cook but don't have easy access to stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.
We believe people should get their nutrition on a plate and not in a pill, and while it's a little more work it's much more effective.
I started this business because I lost over 40 pounds and brought my own cholesterol and triglycerides way under control through these basic changes in diet, because I love great food, and because I'm still naive enough to think I can help change the world (with lots of help!).
Some stats from our pilot: When we can speak with someone directly, 82% of those we've told about this are *buying*, and the average order has been $74. These stats won't translate to web site and affiliate sales, but I'm hoping some of you out there know how to reach these customers who care about healthier eating! FWIW, our web store just opened a few weeks ago, and the average order there has been just under $60.
We're paying 25% (and allowing 90 days for the order) on sales, offer a 2-tier structure, and have a $100 bonus going for $1000 in monthly sales just to kick this off. We're also open to creating custom banners or special programs for affiliates who want to help us change the world! ;)
Web store is at http://www.thehealthypantry.com/shop
And we're using Share-A-Sale: http://www.shareasale.com/shareasale.cfm?merchantID=19181
Thanks for considering how you or someone you know might help.
