Thanks to this thread (http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=114076) I did some research, and went outside a few minutes ago and got this shot:

I took a few more (ok, about 50, lol) but this is one of the best. I love my Sony DSLR :) I needed to use manual settings or it washed out the moon and just made it a big bright blob.

This was taken at 100 iso, 1/1000, and 5.6 (for those that understand that lingo :) )

I'd love a telescope too! That was taken with a 300mm lens on a Sony DSLR that has a built in 2x teleconverter, on a tripod. Effectively making it a 600mm lens.

last night the moon was exceptionally bright as well, but didnt really look any bigger than it normally is. hopefully tonight, if i remember to catch it, i'll be in for the same treat you just got. im hoping to see some shooting stars too, but that's probably unlikely.

At 400 it was at 1/3200 and I figured that was overkill. I actually have a couple shot at that :) The camera goes to ISO 3200 and 1/4000, I plan to use those a lot considering I like to shoot hummingbirds and butterflies ;)

Excellent photo Loxly, slow film is the only way to get some shots. I have a telescope that is gathering dust for anyone interested. It is a top of the line Meade (ETX-125EC) with all the goodies, computer positioning and everything. You can take photos through it if that's your dream. It's been used 3 or 4 times, but finishing work at 10:00pm to then getting on affiliating work doesn't leave much space for enjoying the night sky. The neighbor's new streetlight didn't help the view much either.

The clouds parted just long enough last night to get a good view of the moon. Spectacular! I enjoy looking at the moon through a telescope. It gives me a momentary escape from the realities of life on earth and makes me feel like nothing here really matters. Then... back to reality...

I do when needed. I actually specialize in night photography :)
