I can't get links for my tours in ShareaSale!!

I've tried "Create a custom link to a page" - when i put the code on my page, the code shows up on the page, not a link!!!

When I try searching for a tour on Make a Page, it give no results.

I searched San Francisco, for example, and got more than 60 results. When I narrowed it to San Francisco Little Italy, I got no results. I've got the Little Italy and North Beach tour on my site, and it's still on Viator's site, so I assume the tour still exists. (I think I'm following the directions in the previous post, but none of it makes any sense to me)

How do I make a link (TEXT link) to a specific tour/page?

I'm hoping that ShareaSale will do a better job of tracking, etc, than CJ, but it's pointless if I can't change my links over to SAS!

any help appreciated!!

Judy

What are you using to create your pages? Create a custom link indeed does make the *link*, you still need to make the *text* that links to the link you made.

Like
<a href="http://the link you created">and here goes some text to link that to. Like San Francisco Tour</a>

Thanks - I think I've got it now.

I take the link I created and add:

<a href=" at the beginning (before the created link)

and

">my text</a> at the end.

That seems to work!

I have to say, though, that I still find it frustrating that these instructions are not on the ShareaSale page (at least, I couldn't find them). I don't mind adding the extra html, but for those of us who are novices at this, a bit more instruction from ShareaSale would be helpful.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm glad you figured it out :) Shareasale doesn't generally teach html, there are plenty of sites on the internet that do that. They figure you know that before you try and get a custom link :) That said, there is a "Help" link at the top of the page on the right that you can use to search for information about making links and using the Shareasale backend. I haven't looked lately, there might be information there on creating html etc.

I'll add making the html for Custom Links to the tutorials I am planning to get created the next few weeks.

Is there a way to create a text link directly to the Viator site? That is to say, create a link to a destination vs a specific tour. I'd like to use a generic banner and alter the link to direct to Viator's catalog for that destination instead of the main entry page.

Hi! You go to Shareasale and log in and click on this link:
http://www.shareasale.com/a-customproductlink.cfm

Then in the Drop Down box, pick Viator.

In the box labeled "Destination URL:" Put the link to the page you want to link to.

Click Create Custom Link.

The code will be generated.

If you need a lot of links, go to:
http://www.shareasale.com/a-downloadproducts-bulk.cfm?merchantID=18208

And download the datafeed file that has all the links to all the tours on Viator. There are both image links and landing page urls in that file, along with other information that is detailed in this thread:

Hi. I was looking for assistance with the same challenge. Thank You Loxly for pointing the way. I went back to ShareASale and found what you were referring to although I had to open a ticket before it appeared.

go to :
https://help.shareasale.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=6

It is very explicit.

When Jason Rubacky moved over to SAS, he took a lot of time to create some videos on using the SAS interface, including this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caOAK4nnCLQ) on using the "Create a Custom Link to a Page" feature.
