Last Thursday our beautiful female Great Dane went into labor. I tweeted as each one was born. There were 8 in total, 3 girls and 5 boys. The biggest and the runt were both girls.

Sadly yesterday the runt quit nursing while we were at the office, and although I force feed it every hour throughout the night, it passed away sometime between 4 and 5 am.

Below are some pics of the babies. I put a sprite can in the picture for a point of size reference. Remember, these guys are just under a week old and they are this big!! The first 2 are of the biggest which is a girl. :)

Sorry about the little runt. :(

Was the dad a Great Dane too? So, what are you going to do with the pups?

Shea is a champion great dane at 130 lbs, and the Dad is also a champion blue great dane about 170 lbs.

They are a very special breed that takes very special owners, that we are working with to match perfectly to their pup. :) One or two may find their way into our pack.

Wow, those are ridiculously cute pups. I can hardly imagine having 8 or 9 Great Danes running around the house. Good luck with that! :)

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks you all!

Fortunately we have a very large bathroom which is where they are at the moment in a very large bed. As soon as they get their legs under them and can keep their body temp up no problem, they will earn run of the kitchen. Fortunately it is large as well with a dinning area. We took the dinning run table out and put it in the garage so they have lots and lots and lots of open space, although it will probably make cooking dinner a challenge .. lol!

There eyes should be opening any day to the next week or so. Will post more pics soon.

We weighed the biggest girl yesterday and she was already just about 3 pounds!
