What's the purpose of using ActiveX, on the Clickinks newsletter?
I don't know if I am the only one that block ActiveX on my email program, but I do know that so far, Clickinks is the only merchant that for a long time have been using some kind of ActiveX script on the newsletter email they send...
I finally decided to post about this today, because I just got another Clickinks newsletter, and saw that Clickinks have a new Affiliate Manager, but I still getting some kind of ActiveX script warning when I try to read the newsletter...
Whether that ActiveX is just for email tracking or something else, I don't know, but I think it's a bad idea to send newsletters with ActiveX on it, and I wonder how many more affiliates just block those emails and don't even see it on their email junk, folder.
Btw, here is the warning I get...

Hi
Thank you for the email.
We do not track any of our affiliate emails so I am a little confused how and why there is an ActiveX component. We use the shareasale to post our emails, which are usually text only.
Can you please foward a copy of our email to me, so I can ask our developer to take a look. My email address is aamir dot jiwa at syncoms dot com
Thanks in advance
Aamir

Hi Aamir,
I found the how: Those email are made with microsoft office, so when the Microsoft Word is used, then the smarttags will try to use an ActiveX component by default...
<meta name=3DProgId content=3DWord.Document>
<meta name=3DGenerator content=3D"Microsoft Word 11">
<meta name=3DOriginator content=3D"Microsoft Word 11">
What is causing that ActiveX warning to show up on my computer, is the use of "Smart Tags" on that email, and also the fact that I don't allow the ActiveX component on any email.
I made the other post about 19 hrs ago, and so far it looks like no one else have any problem with the ActiveX thing, so don't go changing your email template on just what I posted above, because maybe I am just the only one blocking the ActiveX component on any email.
Btw, in case you're not familiar with the "Smart tag" issues, here is some info about it:
Smart tag (Microsoft)
Smart tags are an early selection-based search feature found in later versions of Microsoft Word, and beta versions of the Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 8 web browser by which the application recognizes certain words or types of data and converts it to a hyperlink. Selection-based search allows a user to invoke an online service from any other page using only the mouse. Initially Microsoft had intended the technology to be built into its Windows XP operating system but changed its plans due to public criticism. I also found more info on Google after searching for: smart tags in email
