It's important that we all do whatever we can to help protect the livelihoods of affiliates and the future of our industry. While some of us have the ability to go to our state capitols and speak to law makers to share our views, others don't have that luxury.

Don't feel like you're powerless - everyone can do something as small as writing a letter to your district Assembly members and senators to bring this issue to their attention. If we all take the time to write a few letters, they can't be ignored.

These links are all over the place, but it's vital that everyone know they can do something. Representatives are public servants and work for YOU. So let your voice be heard and tell them how they can help YOU as an affiliate marketer.

Find your representatives (http://192.234.213.69/amapsearch/framepage.asp), take10 or 20 minutes to write them a letter explaining to them how the passage of this bill will negatively affect your small business, spend the 42 cents on a stamp and mail it.

We can be heard. :announcem

Great resource Trisha, did you also find any for the other states affected?

Very good!

Could you be so kind to post them in the respective fora as new threads?

Here's another link for finding your CA legislators on the official ca.gov site. You just need to enter your zip code.

I used that link as well and it came up with 2 senators and 2 assembly members for my area. I wrote a letter to all 4 just for good measure :)

Is it appropriate for us to write from out of state as well?

Perhaps since you are (I assume by your location) writing with an NY frame of reference, perhaps with some "this is what happened here and this is why you shouldn't do it" anecdotes, I can't see any harm in it. I know that they definitely put more weight on actual constituents, but like I said, it certainly can't hurt.

I forgot to mention, in that case since you don't come from any one district it would be most appropriate to write to the assembly members on the revenue and taxation committee:

Assemblyman Charles M. Calderon (Committee Chair) (http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a58/)
Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (Vice-Chair) (http://arc.asm.ca.gov/member/70/)
Assemblyman Jim Beall (http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a24/)
Assemblyman Joe Coto (http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a23/)
Assemblywoman Diane L. Harkey (http://arc.asm.ca.gov/member/73/) Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (Majority Whip) (http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a12/)
Assemblyman Jim Nielsen (http://arc.asm.ca.gov/member/2/)
Assemblyman Anthony J. Portantino (http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a44/)
Assemblywoman Lori Saldaņa (Speaker Pro Tempore) (http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a76/)
Phone # and Emails (http://www.assembly.ca.gov/acs/newcomframeset.asp?committee=21)

Also, you might wish to include the bill's author, Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner in your letter writing.

Assemblywoman Skinner (http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a14/)

All Assembly members' email or comment forms (http://www.assembly.ca.gov/acs/acsframeset7text.htm)

Thanks,
Karen

Thanks Karen... I'm going to write her a letter right now... her district is just shy north of me but close enough!

Here is the place to officially comment on AB 178

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/postquery?bill_number=ab_178&sess=CUR&house=B&author=skinner

Click on the button that says Send Comment To Author. Everyone should comment there as well as I assume they tally the number of support, oppose and comment only.
