I’ve attached the form letter I sent to my State Representative for your use. Please just change the salutation and the signature to your information and send this out. This bill is moving quickly and could be passed on April 13, if not earlier. You can find your local State Senate Representative here. (http://mdelect.net/electedofficials/)
Also, here is a link (http://mlis.state.md.us/2009rs/billfile/SB1071.htm) to keep up with the progress (ick) of this bill.
Thanks to the information made available by Karen Garcia and others, I was able to construct my message from existing examples, so THANK YOU!
Every voice counts, every opposition counts, so please take a few minutes of your day to send this off. It would be very much appreciated!

Thank you, Kim, for saving some us some time in searching for addys and writing letters.
No problem, Bill.
The real issue here is that this is moving VERY quickly. We need to get the word out to our Reps as quickly as possible.
Please everyone, pass this on and encourage those you know to send off a note as well. It takes about 10 minutes to do this, and the effects could be devastating if enacted.

Thanks for your blog post on SB 1071 (http://blog.affiliatetip.com/archives/maryland-affiliates-fight-senate-bill-1071-today/) too, Shawn!
I've been an invited participant in a few phone calls today as well, getting the word out and working with our internal resources to lobby against this bill.
buy.at is working hard and has our advertisers' and retailers' best interests in the forefront of our minds. I love this industry and I love even more seeing folks like Haiko, Missy, Shawn, Mellie, Karen and many, many others band together to protect it.

Great job coordinating efforts Kim! I sent my letter, waiting to hear back! As always, you have my support 100% - I'm ready to storm the capital!

I'm ready to storm the capital!
After storming the capital, will you guys be storming McGarvey's? If so, I might have to jump in the car and drive down.
But really, is there something planned to head to Annapolis and make some noise?

Kim - I sent my letter, immediately, upon learning about this, originally through Commission Junction but that was just 2 days ago. I'm out of town until the 13th in Phoenix but let me know if there's anything at all I can do to help make a difference with this.

Kim has been working closely with AOL legal, so far efforts have kept the bill out of the House. If a hearing is scheduled between now and Monday (sine die) we may need to go. Otherwise, let's get people ready for next session. This bill will be back.
PS. I love McGarvey's that place ROCKS!

Scott Jangro just posted a letter from Amazon to Senator Currie in MD - http://www.jangro.com/a/2009/04/09/amazons-letter-to-maryland-senator-currie/
If the law passes, Amazon has told them they'll end relationships with MD affiliates.

Great job Kim, let me know if you need help. I wonder if Mark Klein has an office in Maryland ;)
I wrote about it and linked here.

I just sent an email to my MD state senator. Although since he's a Republican, I doubt he would vote for it anyway.

Oh...just my luck. I've been an affiliate marketer for less then a year now and still learning and working to make it go somewhere and now this. Grrrrrrr. I did send the letter CJ sent out a couple of days ago and will send another.
Amazon's letter hopefully will go far in thwarting this effort.
Wish us luck!

Just got this note from Will Castleberry, AOL's Nat'l. Dir. of State Policy: "Thanks to all of your efforts and the hard work of our Lobbyists in Annapolis, the Maryland Nexus bill (SB 1071) has died. Session ended late last night without the bill getting out of committee...Thanks again and on to Connecticut and Minnesota..."
Good news - it didn't squeak past us on this run.
Bad news - it will be back.
We definitely need to keep up the momentum and encourage others to fight when it is comes around again. And it will.
Additionally, anyone that can focus efforts on Connecticut and Minnesota, that haven't already, PLEASE DO! We can and will make a difference, but we need those directly impacted to help sound the horn.

Indeed good news for Maryland affiliates; looks like a one-year reprieve. Many thanks to you, Kim, for helping to keep the "resistance" ball rolling in this endeavor.
