Dear MeOne,

You were auto-rejected due the fact that your site is located outside of the United States. Due to our agreements with the Vendors whose products we sell, we are not allowed to ship out side of the U.S. Due to this we must reject sites whose traffic is mostly made up of non-U.S. individuals. (As I don't want to mislead anyone)

However, If you do have good deal of your traffic generated by U.S. individuals I would be happy to approve you.

Please let me know if you have more questions...and if your U.S. traffic is enough that you'd feel it was appropriate to be a part of our program.

Thanks!

Matt,

"auto-rejected due the fact that your site is located outside of the United States. "

I bet his sites are located in the US. All my sites are. The Norwegian sites I run too. I have three Norwegian sites, and 8 English ones. Many more are coming this year. Some will be built exclusively for one merchant. All hosted in the US, but made in Norway.

Anyway, how can you assume that the majority of traffic is non-US just because the webmaster isnt't from the US?

Many affiliates play the Google Game. As such, most of our traffic IS from the US, if we target English search phrases.

Your auto-rejection doesn't check which languages the sites are in, does it?

Most webmasters won't care to try and make you change your mind, unless they are somehow DYING to sell YOUR products. They'll just sign up for another merchant to avoid the hassle of the CJ mail interface, and the waiting time to get approved.

One merchant with manual approval, obviously distressed over the Norwegian sites in my CJ profile, sent me an e-mail explaining me that she couldn't approve me before I assured her that I wouldn't send any of my Norwegian traffic. My English sites were obviously interesting, since she didn't reject me right away. (You would have just auto-rejected me, Matt, so you wouldn't even see the sites before the rejection!)

My answer (short version) was something like this:
"Why would I send Norwegian traffic? You don't ship to Norway, so that wouldn't give me any commission. I only send my Norwegian traffic to merchants that can service them. Or else I don't make money."

I was accepted... But what a hassle. I still haven't put up their links for some reason. http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Maybe someone else accepted me first. http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Why would you say no to x% more sales?
IMO you are auto-rejecting sales opportunities.

It amazes me how dumb some affiliate managers are!!! Just because the owner of a website is located outside the US, that does not mean his traffic is non US. You have some cheek to actually auto reject any website without looking at its audience. I'm sure you missed out on some high producing websites because of this.

MeOne, I'm also from Ireland, join up with TigerDirect, you will be accepted and you will convert much better, believe me.

All,

I'm sorry if our stance on this has offended you.

Previously, we were excepting applications from anyone, anywhere. We found that we in conjunction with a good deal of affiliate sites located outside of the U.S. were upsetting customers. People were listing us on sites that targeted non-U.S. traffic and not only were these customers upset at us for advertising somewhere we couldn't sell they were upset at the site who had the advertisement up.

While a good deal of affiliates do exactly what you are all are suggesting...not sending non-U.S. traffic...there are plenty more of affiliates that do send non-U.S. traffic.

This seems like a no win situation for me. Either I upset some affiliates because my approval process for them is a pain or I upset people who I can't actually sell products to.

In the past I've gotten more applications from non-U.S. webmasters that send me non-U.S. traffic than I have from non-U.S. webmasters that send me U.S. traffic. It's not an assumption on my part...it's a fact from experience.

I appreciate your point of view. I can certainly understand why this would upset you. If I were in your position it would probably upset me too. However, rather than just flat out criticizing me for it, why don't you suggest a solution or offer to work with me to come up with one.

MeOne - I'm sorry. If you have a good deal of U.S. traffic, and are still at all interested in our program, give me the word and you're approved.

OveB - Thanks you brought up some good points that I've overlooked. I'll certainly reconsider our stance based upon your comments.

If any one else has any "constructive comments" or suggestions that can help me come to a final decision on this I'd appreciate hearing from you.

I'll let you know what the final outcome is.

Thank you,

All,

Please let me know if you feel that the following would be an acceptable solution to this issue:

Going to Manual Approval on all applications and changing our Application Received Letter to have a statement regarding possible reasons that an application may be rejected and that if your site is rejected and you disagree with the rejection to please contact me to discuss it.

This seems to me to be the best all around solution. Please let me know your thoughts...

Thank you,

Anyone had any good Vanns sales in the last week?

Matt, how is January business? Any updates?

Paul,

January business is ahead of the curve for us here. We're experiencing large increases over last year and look to be having a good month.

Sales have of course dropped from the great level they were at only a couple of weeks ago. But things are looking good. We're expecting to have a month equal to or better than November.

Thanks!
