Hello all,
We have officially joined the Linkshare Affiliate Network (posted this in the Linkshare forum as well) and are in the development process.
We are very excited about our soon-to-be affiliate program and want to have a strong and rewarding partnership with our affiliates over the years to come.

With that in mind, I would like to ask for input into creating a fair affiliate program. Please provide valid suggestions of what you would like to see in a program [rather than 90% commission and unlimited return days http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ]

In return, I am willing to answer any questions anyone might have including confidential sales / conversion info. Our philosophy is that affiliates should be treated as an extension of our company and information should be openly shared with our affiliate parnters.

To start with:
Average order: $75 ($85 during holidays)

Conversion rate: average 2%

Major marketing efforts: Overture and other CPC search engines & some search engine optimization for keywords such as "leather journal"

Current marketing expenses: 15-18% of gross sales

Returns: 1.2% (very low compared to rest of industry of 3-5%)

Margins: Average 50%. Slightly lower on some products such as software and slightly higher on embossed products.

Don't hesitate to post questions along with suggestions. We value your opinion and want to create a great program for all of us.
Thanks,
David Giacomini

Will you be having product links? That is what sells for me the best and I would love to try you out if you are incorporating these.

Yes, we will definitely have product and category links. It is a bit more difficult to have this functionality with Linkshare but we will definitely include it.

Do you think 10-15% commissions (tiered based on sales volume) and 30 return days sounds fair?

sounds good to me. I think the commission is a definite incentive. The only other things I can think of is to try to keep products available for a nice length of time(in other words we don't want to have to change the code every month lol) and make sure the graphics and tracking work properly

Nice addition to a gifting site or bookstore page since readers are the ones who write. A wedding journal/scrapbook/album would be a nice addition for those with wedding sites.

I see the thread moving along very nicely and a peek at your site has you heeding some advice but, for the life of me, I don't understand WHY my post was DELETED from the thread~! THAT, I don't appreciate. Musta been Haiko.

Actually, that is my fault. I got a little too zealous and actually posted in several topics that I thought were appropriate: "New Programs (this topic); "Linkshare" (since I am with Linkshare) and "Site Review" (since I was soliciting feedback.

Your reply was (and is still in) the "Linkshare" thread. I do value your suggestion. Now that I'm focused on the "Shop" text, its annoying me more and more each day. I'll probably remove it entirely like you suggested.

Thanks again for the advice.
