Sufficient proof illustrating site copying of another member's site was shown to me today, subsequently the copier is now banned from ABW. Use of and participation in ABW is to help one another to learn and earn more, not theft. Anyone who is caught coping will be banned, plain and simple!

Agreed, disturbing indeed.
What makes anyone think copying a site is any better than counterfeiting money?

I just don't understand copying someone's site. It seems you would miss the satisfaction of knowing you've created something successful on your own.
Plus, once you publish it, it's out there for everyone to see. Seems the possibility of getting caught is pretty good.

I agree completely!
They should be banned from the Internet and thrown in jail! Glad to know this one was banned from here, at least!

Glenn -
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by hawking, but what I am doing is looking for other's opinions on these scripts as well as how to prevent site theft and the like.
Here's a nice thread I found here on the antiadbuster script. It's a bit dated so I'd love to hear what other people have to say about it as well as the BotBuster script.
Perhaps you should read it. Even Haiko was against it at first, then changed his mind. Maybe after reading it, you will change your mind, too.

Sadly, none of the scripts posted above can stop site copying. I think the real fear that I have has more to do with copying my site design, rather than a blatant copy of the whole thing. Of course, one way or the other, it gets copied. SUCKS http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Im not speaking for Haiko, but it appeared to me that he was not jumping up and down in joy after reading this. As you know I cited the reasoning of customer service, customer respect in regards to not using popups.
As the article is dated that you have cited, I have noted that since then AOL has the pop up stopper imbedded within its browser.
A whole industry has spawned in relation to stopping the pop up.
Affiliate managers have seen the signs too, and now they want to advocate opening New Windows, are they crazy, do they want to sell or crash people's computers. The public is not that far behind in technical savvy to wise up to crazy schemes like new windows.
The worst of the worst of predators is moving away from the pop up, GAIN.
If people want to look at your ad, they will, if a company ad sucks, well you need to work on it. Shoving it regardless in front of a customer, is down right ignorant.
That is my opinion on pop ups. Hatem.

Perhaps you don't fully understand what the script does, Glenn. It doesn't make the visitor see something they don't want to see. Depending on how the web master uses it, it will simply not allow the visitor to view the site at all.
By the way, here's one of Haiko's final comments on the script. Did you even read the whole thing? It's not about pop-ups - it's about ad blockers. Ad blockers do much more than just keep ads from showing up in your browser. They take away your commissions.
Anyway, here's the comment:
"After seeing ... I agree and am all for the script! WTG!"
Gee, sounds like he hates it, huh?
Lastly, my whole point of mentioning the script in this thread is about keeping people from stealing your site, not about popups, ad blockers or the like.

If you have access to your .htaccess file here is a great addition that stops 95% of site copiers and blocks 80% of uninvited bandwidth wasting spiders as well.
I can't take credit for it. It came from a thread in another forum. I have tested it with a user agent spoofer and it is very successful.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! and be careful when you make additions as wildcarding bot for example would block googlebot.
For the benefit of the newbies, do we copy and paste this into notepad and upload it to our host via ftp, or is there more to this?

Hi Glenn,
Yes to the cut and paste.
Most ftp progs wont let you upload a file called .htaccess. I am sure there are better ways to do it but what I do is save my .htaccess content into a file called 1.htaccess and then upload that into the root of the highest directory i want it to affect.
I then SSH to my site using putty.exe and rename the file with unix. The correct code to do this is first do change directory to your web folder then rename the file as follows.
cd public_html {enter}
mv 1.htaccess .htaccess {enter}
IF for any reason you need to get rid of it due to site access problems, connect to your site and delete the .htaccess file.
