A couple of good features make file sharing with Kazaa very easy, but the overabundance of ads hampers the experience. Of the eight main Kazaa toolbar buttons, two are indispensable. The search function lets you configure your search with a good number of filters to help you find what you are looking for, whether it's music, video, software, pictures, documents, or any other type of computer file. Kazaa's huge user base means you are likely to find what you want. The Traffic function lets you monitor the progress of your downloads and see what other people are downloading from you. Adding a Euro-twist, Kazaa's interface is available in French, German, and Spanish in addition to English.
Some people might find Kazaa's Theatre function, which is basically a media player, useful, although most file swappers already have preferred playback software. The Start screen is simply a browser window where Kazaa can run house ads, and the Bonzi Buddy button merely installs 3rd-party adware. The Kazaa interface includes a banner ad window along its base, just like other ad-supported software, but its inclusion of Cydoor 3rd-party adware means you will be inflicted with a constant stream of browser pop-ups while using Kazaa--a terrible annoyance to those of us who prefer a clean desktop. Kazaa would qualify as excellent file-sharing software if it would lose the browser pop-ups.

Editor's note: This download includes additional applications that are bundled within the KaZaa's installer file. These applications may deliver advertisements or use additional system resources unrelated to KaZaa. As with all downloads, CNET recommends that you pay close attention to the options presented to you during the installation process and review KaZaa's privacy policy. "Downloads: 60,803,381" - I think that say's it all because the demand for these products is unbeliveble. This is just an assumption but $$$$$ may have something to do with it as well.

Aye ..there matey!!! Let the pirates walk the plank. While your at it ... make up a preferred merchants list of high conversion merchants for ABW members so we don't choose the dogs. To get on that elite list, and stay on it, the merchants like TigerDirect have to prove they convert month in and month out. No "acclaim" (BF) preferred merchant stars(LS) partners need apply until they can publish or prove their worth. No more gratus traffic or fair play for the overall merchant pool. THIS IS THE LIST ..earn your right to get placed upon it regardlesss of network provider.

Boycott Double Click:
"Kazaa, the largest file-trading network running, has a new business plan that includes a subscription service, audio and video media advertising -- oh, and an offshore tax haven.

Sharman Networks, the company that purchased Kazaa in January, announced a deal Tuesday with Internet advertising company Double Click, as well as the creation of a new, secure delivery system that will make the company profitable, said Nikki Hemming, Sharman's CEO.

Kazaa, an application that is downloaded onto a hard drive, comes embedded with software from Brilliant Digital Entertainment that allows companies to deliver advertisements. Double Click will then be responsible for selling Kazaa's advertising space, with the two companies splitting profits.

Soon, advertisements will be popping up while you wait. Users will be offered a premium service that allows them to pay for an advertisement-free version of the software, Hemming said.

"This is the next step," Hemming said. "In the next six months, you'll see a premium version of this player. With that, you'll also see some sexy applications added to the Kazaa player."

Kazaa does come with adware and who knows what else. But we do have the option of not loading it on our computer. After all do you really expect someone to go to all that trouble and expense to create peer-to-peer software simply to allow individuals to share software and files between themselves. There must be some way for them to recover their costs and to make a profit.
