Hi kids!
We're getting a new puppy! His name will be Dood (pronounced "doo-oo-ood") and he'll arrive from Virginia on Friday or Saturday by chauffeur! (Sorta.)
He's a Labradodle, a non-AKC breed that originated in Australia; a cross between a Poodle and a Labrador Retriever. The goal of crossing these two breeds is to obtain a dog with Poodle smarts and non-shedding coat and Labrador Retriever laid-backness. Dood is 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Lab. Our only apprehension is how our middle-aged female Standard Poodle will respond to him.
Isn't he about the cutest thing you've ever seen? We can't wait to meet him.

Thanks, Nova! I don't think a dog could do better than to have hubby and me for parents. I always said that if reincarnation existed I'd like to come back as my own dog! lol!
His nickname is Dood, but his full name is Spanky Doodle Dandy, a pun based on the song "Yankee Doodle Dandy."
If you'd like to check out the breeder, the website is Glen Eden Labradoodles (http://www.labradoodles.com)
Glen Eden also breeds Goldendoodles which are a Golden Retriever - Poodle cross.

No-no-no-no-no!
We're not going to mate them to each other!
Our poodle is spayed. Dood will be neutered at a later date.
You people went and jumped to the w-r-o-n-g conclusion this time!!! http://66.132.187.8/smilies/rotflol.gif

Sorry I jumped to the wrong conclusion this time, I read it to fast before I posted, now can you please give this note to Dood.

Dood, RUN AWAY, quick RUN AWAY, that bitch is spayed and related to Lorena Bobbit and if you want to have your own puppy's one day, make a run for the border now! Just forget about the chauffeur, the trip and the fantasy treats.
Sincerely,
The Taco Bell Chihuahua

I know Sal, I hate that we have to snip him but it's really best for him and for us. Male dogs that aren't neutered tend to go wandering in search of romance and adventure. Because we live in the country, wandering could have deadly consequences. http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
We want a stay-at-home Doodle who will make us laugh and entertain our hyperactive Poodle who badly needs a playmate (NOT a boyfriend).

Absolutely adorable!
But what do you mean, "you can't wait to meet him?" Did you Click There at "www.Get-A-Labradoodle.com" and put in your CC# or what?
I met all my dogs "by surprise," but it sure wasn't because I planned it that way!

Leader there aren't any Labradoodle breeders in our area (that I trust anyway) and Glen Eden has an excellent reputation. No, we haven't actually laid eyes on Dood yet. He's in Virginia and we're 350 miles away in upstate NY. http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
The breeder is very responsible. We exchanged several emails, gave them a deposit, and filled out a lengthy application form, plus they contacted our veterinarian to ask some questions. If they thought we wouldn't give Dood a good home I'm sure they would have rejected our application.
Because of hubby's schedule we can't reasonably make the trip to Virginia now to pick Dood up, so he's getting a lift from an employee of Glen Eden who's passing our way. We'll know tomorrow if he's arriving Friday or Saturday.
But Dood and I have one very important thing in common, so I'm sure we'll hit it off. We were both conceived in Virginia! http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The puppy arrived at 5:00 today! He is just as cute as his picture, smart as a whip and very affectionate. It only took three tries to get him to go up and down stairs. (I only hope he learns to do his business outside that fast!)
Whitney is being pretty good with him, although as soon as he runs she jumps on him. He's pretty good at eluding her though and if that fails he ducks behind me or my husband for protection. We've set up a special area for him in our half bath downstairs which has his crate, blanket, food and water dishes and his toys. Whitney has been great about not messing with his stuff. She understands that it belongs to him. He, on the other hand, doesn't yet understand that she doesn't like it when he drinks her water, eats her food, or takes her toys. This is going to be a very interesting couple of months! http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

"smart and affectionate?"
I still hope he is smarter than John Bobbit and make a run for the border, before it's to late for him.
"He, on the other hand, doesn't yet understand that she doesn't like it when he" ....
Hey man! .......I meant, Hey Dood, get the fk out of there before it's to late for you.
Unless of course the two of you two want to make the next porno flick ... John and Dood do hollywood

Cool!
Hope he doesn't use that stair-climbing ability before he's potty-trained, to deposit "surprises" where you'd never expect--a favorite puppy trick.
You're lucky that he's not a small dog. Small-dog puppies can "go" *under* the furniture (yech)...

Dood managed to sleep through the night without having an accident, but this morning he discovered my home office and has designated it as his indoor potty. http://abw.infopop.cc/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Fortunately we have lots of Borax and a Bissell Little Green Clean Machine, so it's not the end of the world. However if he keeps using my office as his toilette I'm going to start taking it personally! http://66.132.187.8/smilies/rotflol.gif
