Group Manager, Affiliate Marketing

The Company

LowerMyBills.com is the premier online service for consumers to compare the lowest rates on monthly bills to reduce living expenses. To date, the privately held Santa Monica, Calif., company has helped over 500,000 consumers save more than $172 million on their recurring monthly expenses. LowerMyBills.com grew out of the dissatisfaction its founder & CEO, Matt Coffin, experienced in the wake of buying his first home in 1999. As he attempted to seek out the best deals on long distance, cellular service, home loans and other monthly expenses, Matt ended up spending hours on hold with dozens of providers. And the rate information he did gain was confusing as well as time consuming. He wished there was a one-stop online shop where he could compare rates on all monthly expenses and select the best deals. It was this frustration that drove him to create LowerMyBills.com.

LowerMyBills.com chose a very different path from many of the dot-com businesses founded in 1999 and 2000. From the very beginning the company embodied a “do more with less” mentality, accepting a minimum of outside investment and focusing on producing maximum revenue growth and profitability. The early focus on attaining profitability proved prescient as massive fallout occurred in the dot-com sector, following the burst of the dot-com bubble in 2000. Focusing initially on reselling long distance services, after eighteen months the company rapidly grew successful in lead generation for auto insurance companies. Subsequently, in a span of a mere eight months, LowerMyBills.com became second only to LendingTree.com in online lead generation for home lending. As of late 2004, LowerMyBills.com has an exceptionally strong balance sheet, twelve quarters of profitability, and ten quarters of cash flow positive standing.

As part of the launch of Experian Interactive, Experian has recently acquired LowerMyBills.com. The acquisition combines Experian Interactive's other businesses -- Experian Consumer Direct (the online market leader for credit reports, scores, and monitoring products delivered directly to consumers over the Internet), MetaReward, and Affiliate Fuel (pay-for-performance Internet marketing companies) with LowerMyBills.com's platform for helping consumers find loans and lower the cost of daily living.

This further supports Experian's goal of assisting consumers in managing their financial needs and positions Experian as the 15th-largest Internet company by revenue in the US. The purchase price was $330 million, plus up to a $50 million performance-related earn-out over the next two years.

All employees and management for LowerMyBills.com will be retained. The acquisition is consistent with Experian's global strategy of acquiring complementary businesses that provide new products, new data or entry into new vertical or regional markets, while leveraging the core assets of Experian.

As word of the company has spread among its satisfied customers, LowerMyBills.com has also been featured on CNBC, CNN, CNNfn, Bloomberg Television, ABC News, KTLA, and Good Day Dallas, as well as featured in the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, New Chicago Tribune, Entrepreneur, Kiplinger's Personal Finance, and Smart Money.

Any chance this position could be relocated to Experian's Chicago offices, or made virtual?

Unfortunately no. This individual will be building a team of 4-5 people among the different verticals. So there will quickly be some management responsibilities. The aim here is to actually build a strong "affiliate marketing" function unlike what many companies have currently which is typically a one man or one woman show.

Thanks for taking a look though.
