Hi guys,

I'm forming a California LLC for my web venture (there's 4-5 more people involved in the project).

Do you guys have any recommendations for a good online service?

One package I saw on a major corporate formation website is this:

$149 for filing
Expedited Preparation and Filing the Articles of Formation

Company Name Search & Reservation

I also wouldn't mind paying for a "maintenance" service which shows me what kind of records I need to keep to keep the LCC's corproate veil alive and well.

Instead of paying a service, i would suggest going to your state's website.
http://www.ss.ca.gov/business/business.htm

These services do nothing extra for you and they will offer no binding advice (i have never seen one). Most of them are just smoke and mirrors, have you fill out the same forms you would directly send to the state, but instead of sending them to the state you get to send them to their service and pay an extra $100.

I, too, did it myself (LLC, here in Maryland) about four years ago. I believe it cost me $60 and was completed in a few days.

And, I figure if I can do it - then anyone can.

Poker, through 32 years in business management I have set up numerous corporations, LLC's and partnerships. It is indeed something that you can do yourself. I would suggest however that perhaps you will want to consult with your accountant in order to determine tax and other advantages and liabilities before setting up.

Talk to your accountant. You also have a choice as to where you incorporate and what type of corporation you form. The choices you make (even if you don't realize you're making a choice) now can make a big difference later.
