Following two pre-launch discussions ( first one (http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=82597) || second one (http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=82922)) I am pleased to start this thread today...

:announcem :announcem :announcem The FreeDynamicTemplates.com (http://www.freedynamictemplates.com) project is now officially launched!! :howdy:

...and the first dynamic template available is the RussianLegacy.com's one (http://www.freedynamictemplates.com/m_russian_legacy.html).

The first 10 affiliates that test the Russian Legacy's template (customizing it to fit their websites), PM/e-mail me the URLs where I may find the product of their work, and provide feedback on their experience in this thread, will receive $15 GBs each. ;) Yes, that makes up a $150.00 bonus fund to appropriate, while building your own websites!! :cheerful:

Looking forward to your participation in the project...

Geno,

In the instructions we are directed in the config.php file to change the XXXX to our Russian Legacy Affiliate ID. Should that not say SAS ID?

Also, do we need the images folder or can we move the images to same directory as the other files?

Atonca,

At FastNext you will need to open a support ticket and supply both your IP and the IP of the RL MySQL.

Gene is right. It is normally best to open a ticket. However, if you got someone online and he is helping you, you may as well take advantage of that... Looking forward to seeing the fruits of your work, M*****!!

You're right! :approval: It should, and it says that already (changes made in four places in the text). Thank you, Gene!!

The FDT's MySQL. Just tell them it is for the "templates" database of the FreeDynamicTemplates.com website. They'll know what you're talking about. ;)

Geno,

I have up-loaded the files to my host. When trying to connect to the index.php, I get an error: Cannot connect to database. Access denied for user 'affiliate'@'host.server20065.net' (using password: XXX) I replaced the password with XXX.

My host does allow this type connection as I am using them for the FTC DT.

got a similar error message. i think we need to give geno our IPs/domains so that he can add it to the whitelist to allow connections to the RL remote mysql.

The host told me to let them know the "domain name - IP address" combinations for each affiliate.

prix, I could only guess that the domain name you've mentioned in your PM corresponds to the first IP you've mentioned. We're playing with that combination now. If it isn't correct, please let me know.

Everyone else, please PM or e-mail me the "domain name - IP address" combinations for each domain you want to run any of the FDT templates on.

Gene, the template looks for images in the /images folder. The images could be moved to the same directory, but the image links in the template would need to be updated to reflect it.

Someone, let me know your domain-IP combination for me to whitelist you!! C'mon, be the first one! :cheerful:

Geno,

see PM for the correct IP for the domain.

I think its best to just open the connections to all instead of requiring all affiliates to give their domains and IP so that it can be added to the whitelist. Most affiliates have a lot fo collectibles sites and multiple domains on various hosts and different IPs.. some even have multiple redundant IPs on one domain as failover if the primary host/IP fails..

my 2 cents :)

There are very good :twocents: prix and will talk to the host about this first thing tomorrow. That's exactly what we should do, or otherwise the process of whitelisting will make me hire an additional staff to cope with it...

thanks.. hosts could be against this as this might increase the load on their server substantially because it would make it very easy for affiliates to use your template and connect with the mySQL database but more affiliates using FDT templates equates to more happy affiliates and money for all :p

Geno,

You may want to talk to your programmer about this idea I am working on. You could create a SQLite database of Russian Legacy that affiliates could download to their host. If they have PHP 5 installed they could run your template directly from the SQLite file directly on their host without having to worry about MySQL connections. PHP 5 supports SQLite automatically and the database and template could be downloaded as one package.

Every time you upload a new feed, you could upload a corresponding SQLite file so they can "refresh" their feed. This will also relieve the load on your mysql server.

Just a thought.

PS: I am developing this as part of my service as well - I figured I'd shared the idea.

I'm ticketing with Fastnext. It takes time to wait for a response...Maybe somebody here can help me.

My existing site was built using Microsoft Frontpage, and I enabled MS FP Extensions on my hosting control panel. My question is, do I need to trun off MS FP Extensions to make ftp work? Since I never built a ftp site before, I'm affraid the ftp files will mess up with my existing site pages.

You place the php files on your site, and they pull the data from Geno's server. The best thing you can do, is figuare out a way to make your site different than everyone elses site, since they too will be using the template. And I'm not talking about cosmetic changes either ;)

As for the front page stuff, I don't think that will have any affect on the template.
