After reading about Haiko's amazing accomplishment in losing 100 lbs and kicking the smoking and caffeine habits here (http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=89009) , I had an idea.
I spoke to Haiko and determined that the charity of his choice is the American Cancer Society (which also happens to be near and dear to my own heart). I want to encourage Haiko to keep up the amazing weight loss so I had an idea.
gen3marketing will donate $2 for every pound Haiko loses from the beginning of his journey, through the end of the first year. That means that we're already in for $200! I know that may not seem like alot, but I'd like to open this up to others on the board. Post a per pound pledge and let's really motivate Haiko to drop those pounds!! The best way to do what he's doing is with a ton of support. Let's show him how much support we have for him!
Please post an amount per pound (or a fixed amount if you'd like) and we'll keep track. I'll leave it up to each of you to make the donation 6 months from now in Haiko's name.
Let's make Haiko the Biggest Loser!

I'm in! However, I'd like to donate $2 per every pound *I* lose. Might as well join Haiko rather than just sit back and watch. :)
I'd also like to donate $100 on top of that for Haiko's accomplishment.

About eight years ago, I experienced a four day hospital stay, hooked up to IVs, oxygen, and heart monitors. I took better care of myself immediately afterwards, but physical ailments have caught up to me again in the last few years and I need to do something about it. I just needed a little inspiration. Thanks, Haiko!

OK -- I'd like to donate $20.00 per pound for each of the ten pounds of baby weight that I still have on, that I've been trying to lose for nearly a year.
Many of you have heard me b*tch about not being able to get back into the pre-pregnancy jeans for quite some time. For some reason, it's not been as easy to lose the weight with this child as it was with my first.
Well, now that Chase will be 1 on Thursday, I figure that I really can't justify the failed attempts any longer.
So, I joined a gym two weeks ago and although I hate every second of it, I am committed to going 3 times a week.
Donating for a good cause is just sugar-free icing on the low-fat/low-carb/low-sodium cake ;-)

I had a very similar idea Mike. You led the way, so I am in for $100 in honor of Haiko and will give an additional $5 for each bass I catch and post in video on my fishing site from now until July 4th. At the current rate, that will be somewhere between 60 and 100 bass.
I have been involved in Relay for Life for many years and am a big fan of the ACS. My activities with them have waned in the past few years because of work so this is great for me.
Nice move to get it all started.

H --- Break the Bank! :)

I have a goal of losing 40 lbs by June 30th. For each lb I lose the ACS gets 2 bucks. That's 80 bucks. Not much I know, but it's 80 bucks more than I had in mind when i woke up this morning :-)
For each pound I am short of my goal the ACS gets 5 bucks. That's a max of $200 out of pocket.
That's the deal.

Great response so far! I will let everyone know what the total lost poundage is at the end of the time period, and would ask that you all make the donations to the American Cancer Society on your own in Haiko's name. I will get details on exactly where and how to do that to simplify for everyone when the time comes.
In the meantime, let's take a quick inventory of the pledges so far:
gen3marketing - $200+
Meadowmufn - $100+
Missy - up to $200 for her own lbs + $5/additional lb. for Haiko
Brian Littleton - $200+
Donuts - $200+
Jorge/JRami - $200+
Uncle Scooter -$100+ $5/Bass + a lot of fishing stories!!
mr_jones -$80 - $200 depending on his own weight loss
Liquidate -$50
DesignerWiz -$200+
This is awesome!! In a few short hours we've pledged to donate over $1,300 to the American Cancer Society in Haiko's name! Let's keep the pledges coming (I feel like I'm on a telethon!). Please don't feel pressured to pledge a certain amount. If half of the active members of this board put up $5 each, we would have one heck of a donation! Also, for those of you that still work in corporate environments, you may have access to matching gifts. Make sure you take advantage if you do.
Haiko is doing an amazing job in squashing all of his vices and losing lots of weight. Let's continue to do our part to help him along and donate to a great cause in the meantime.
If you prefer to remain anonymous in making a pledge, please email, IM or PM me the amount and I will not disclose your identity.

The online Donation Form (https://www.cancer.org/docroot/don/don_1_Donate_Online_Now.asp?from=hpbutton) takes a credit card.
I'm not sure abouts checks. Call the number on their home page and I'm sure they will tell you where to mail a check. Also, ask about making a donation "in honor of" someone. You may need to include that info with the check.
I called them twice and someone promptly picked up each time.

I can do it that way. Are we not centrally collecting this and making a lump sum deposit? It does not matter to me. Mr. Tabasso?

Scooter,
I think the original plan was to wait for the one year anniversary of Haiko's committment to health. I believe that date is on or around December 1st of this year.
I toyed around with the idea of collecting all of the money and making a single donation, however, in this case, I think it's best if each donor make his/her own donation directly. I wouldn't want there to be any doubt as to whether or not I made the correct donation.
I'll provide tally when we get closer to December.
