Haiko I want you to know you've inspired me. I'm hell-bent on hitting 210 for my wedding. It's in 3 weeks. I was at 226 on Monday, and through an aggressive diet and workout routine I think I'm good to go. Wish me luck!

Joe,
Losing what equates to a pound a day is definitely not healthy, you will run the risk of serious dehydration and subsequently kidney damage and that is not worth it for a few lbs. I think you should aim for six pounds that is a lot more reasonable and healthy. The best way to achieve that goal is to count calories and reduce carbs but not to the point of losing energy for the exercise regime you have - I'd estimate 1,800 calories with the preponderance in the AM and lunch - eat a handful of walnuts before you eat and you'll get "fuller" quicker while getting a good helping of omega 3 and six fatty acids and reduce your cholesterol also. When working out - remember that if your pee is dark - your dehydrated!

Thanks for the tips, Haiko. :) What you have figured out is the discipline, which is something I totally lack. I've always been an "eat what you want then lift until you burn it off" sort of guy. With this new job and the girl and pets, though, I just dont have 2-3 hours/day to lift any more, you know?
I drink flax oil or take fish oil capsules every day for the omegas. As you can imagine, dehydration is a HUGE problem here. I started cycling recently and grossly underestimated my need for water. My fiancee hit a wall while we were still 12 miles from home and I had to make a pretty embarassing call to her parents. HA! Now we each carry at least 1/2 gallon with us and refill every hour or so, just to be safe.
I'm actually experimenting with a diet I read about recently. It's kind of an "Atkins for weightlifters" sort of deal. You can read about it here. http://fourhourworkweek.com/blog/
I'm not going to kill myself for the weight or do any of that 1000 calorie-a-day stuff. :)

Congrats Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do atkins with a ton of excersize you should be able to drop to that easy in three weeks =0). Make sure your pants and Tux still fit though =0)

Stick to your set goals of the daily calorie intake, eat lean meat, vegetables and fish (preferably white), control your portion sizes, increase amounts of fiber, water, excercise, rest plentifully to restore, and God be with you in this uneasy but worthy task, Joe. You're on the right path, and I wish you the best of luck, my friend. :approval:

Holy crap. Down 6 lbs since monday, and I'm not starving myself nor am I dehydrated! I am sore, though. This "1 set to failure" workout is excruciating!

Wow good for you Joe - 10lbs in a week or so??!?! I admire your discipline (though you said you previously had none - apparently you do now) but I agree with Haiko - DO make sure you are keeping tabs on internal health - as with everything balance is key.
General rule of thumb (far as I've always heard) is that 2lbs a week is realistic, safest and best for SUSTAINABLE, healthy weight loss. Remember, when you lose TOO much too soon you may inevitably go back up too soon as well, and risk doing damage to your metabolism if you do the up/down rollercoaster diet thing too many times over.
From what I hear from Sandee you are an awesome guy so we'd hate to see anything happen to you!! LOL
Having said that - the last thing I want is to rain on your parade - so good luck - don't let go of your newfound (?) perseverance toward this goal (or any other)...
Finally - congratulations on the engagement and very fast approaching wedding!!
Best wishes to you and the fiance!
