That's right GET OFF YOUR ASS, as with anything business wise we have to get off our buts to achieve it, the problem with AM is that we are on our asses all day and sedentary, we need to keep the legs moving and the blood flowing and blood pumping so I'm going to be giving away free pedometers to anyone who promises to:

a) actually wear (use) them
b) keep track of your daily steps in a log (on or off line)
c) augment the daily total at least by one every day
c) you agree not to turn around and resell it on ebay :)

So if your interested, please post and I'll send you a pm asking for snail mail instructions. Names and Addy's will not be resold or given to anyone - I'm going to walk the packages to the mail box myself :)

I would not need one unless there is a way to tune it so that it measures swimming laps, :cheerful: but I am discussing the problem (that motivates you to start a new forum, and this new promo/call for action, Haiko) with my wife almost daily, and I thank you for doing this, man. There has been a huge need/niche for someone to start something like this, and I'm glad you're the one starting it. WTG, man!!

Get 'em pedometers, people, and let's all get more physically active, slimmer, healthier, and thereby much more productive and happier!! :approval:

Since Monday, I've been doing one hour walk every morning to get off my ass.

It's my priority now. i don't need the pedometer because I know the route I take and the time, but thanks anyway, I'm sure it will help some people.

Great motivation to get out there and walk- thanks Haiko!

Point of interest: It takes 10 thousand steps a day to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose, you'll have to take way more "steps." A few tips to do this:

1) Park farther away than you have to at the market, mall, wherever you go. Adding just a few extra steps each errand will add up!

2) Take stairs instead of elevators wherever possible. This is huge! Helps a lot plus it tones and firms up your butt.:woohoo:

3) Do Keigles (??? spelling) everywhere when you're sedentary. Squeeze your butt muscles together, hold 10 seconds, release for 10 seconds, repeat. You can do this while sitting or standing.

4) Run in place when you can. I recommend this at home and not in public. LOL - Run in place while waiting for coffee to brew or when waiting for something to cook. Also, when going from one room to another, run, lift your knees and pump your arms. Even if it's just a few seconds, make it a habit and the "steps" will add up.

5) Get a dog. You'll have no choice but to walk the beast. :speechles

I've already got a pedometer, so I'll pass on this offer Haiko. Your offer is a great motivator, though. As is the fact that you lost all that weight!

It takes 10 thousand steps a day to maintain your current weight.Sorry, but that's not accurate for sedentary or even average-exercising people.

To maintain your current weight, you simply need to consume no more calories than you burn.

If you're active, then you need more cals. Therefore you can eat more.
If you're sedentary, you need what seems like hardly any. This is why it's so easy to gain weight while sitting on your butt.

Also, it's quite possible to gain weight despite lots and lots of exercise: Just eat more than you burn. Remember William "Refrigerator" Perry? Even though he played football, which has got to be one of the most calorie-burning activities there is especially when practices are accounted for, they were constantly after him to lose weight.

10,000 steps = 5 MILES!! (According to TheWalkingSite). Here's their page on the 10,000 steps, which also has a suggested plan for working up to that level: http://www.thewalkingsite.com/10000steps.html

IMO if you can walk 10,000 steps/day and just maintain your weight, you're in darned good shape! Heck, if you can walk 10,000 steps in a day, period, you're in darned good shape!! It'll take me ages to work up to that. I have little hope for that site's 14-week plan, although I may give it a shot just for kicks...

All that said, walking is a great idea and fine exercise. But I don't want people to be scared off, thinking they'll have to walk more than 5 miles a day to see any results. It's all relative. If you're used to only walking to the bathroom, then ANY decent amount of walking will produce improvement, provided you don't just eat more to make up for the deficit :)

Also, the more weight has been lost, the more exercise it takes to get rid of the rest. So thin people have to do more w*rk to see results. If you were trying to dump the last 5 lbs, then it may well take big hikes to do it.

Wow, count me in! That's great. 6 days out of the week (except this week) I walk at night down to our local "square" and walk around it between 3-6 times depending on the puppy I am with and how they are acting. When live bands are at the bars .. the puppies tend to get frightened.

Thanks Haiko!
