Thought it would be fun to get together for dinner in Toronto - in June?

Anyone up for it?

I'm interested in a get together, there is also SES in Toronto which is June 12-13. Could tie it into that if you want??

Sounds good! I'll keep my calendar open and keep an eye on this thread.

Calling all Southern Ontario folks and anyone else who can be in Toronto for 2nd week in June? If you are serious about meeting up we should post this on Brook Schaaf's AffiliateDinner.com as the event will get more exposure that way.

P.S. why not aim for June 11th or 14th then to align with either day before SES or day after?

Let's keep the evening of June 11th open.

I'll book a venue based on the number of people attending - I'll also ensure it's on the subway line close to the SES venue.

Keep your eye on this post.

Excited in Guelph,
Ceri

I'm definitely interested in going. I don't think I can justify the expense of SES right now, but I can certainly drive up there for dinner and maybe stay the night.

the SES exibition hall is free if you register in advance :) You could do that too.

Hey, so it is! I guess I didn't look carefully enough and only saw the big numbers in the conference packages. Of course there will be the cost of a hotel if I'm there for both SES and the dinner, and I'm guessing there's no such thing as a "cheap hotel" in Toronto. Mapquest says it's almost 3 hours drive, so commuting each day would be a major pain.

Then again, if I go up there and stay a couple days, I might not come back ;)

I highly recommend we advertise this on AffiliateDinner.com for best results if we hope to gather a larger number of interested attendees.

Ceri, do you want to coordinate that listing, or would you like some help? I'd be happy to help coordinate things if necessary. Let me know... :)

Whoops, I edited my last post after you posted, Welshie. Yeah, come to think of it there's probably cheap hotels or motels in Toronto. But I'd prefer one that doesn't have the charm of random gunshot sounds or cockroaches (or bathtubs that fall through the floor).

Keep me posted, folks, or rather, I will keep an eye on the post as well. Sounds like it would be a great meeting-up.

Spacedog, June 11th is a Monday, hotels are not that pricey on weekdays generally speaking unless a long weekend.

For anyone coming in from out of town - Expect to pay between $89/139 CAD a night (cheaper for you U.S. folks, thx to exchange in your favour), anywhere depending on WHERE you stay.

It's unlikely you'll hear random gunshots or have cockroaches... (you'll probably hear sirens and cars honking quite a bit though! LOL) just DO NOT book anything on Lakeshore Blvd and you should be ok. :)

Stay on/near Yonge St. if you can, as it's our main drag (and the longest st. in the world!) - it runs north/south right thru the centre of metro T.O. and has a subway line for easy, fast, direct accessibility to pretty much anywhere you want to go in the city.

Of course, once we decide on the WHERE of this gathering, we Torontonian types can always make recommendations for where it might be best for visitors to the city to stay.

Where is SES being held? Metro T.O. Convention Centre?

Metro Convention Centre (yes center is spelled centre in Canada...lol) - North Building.

Brook kindly added the invite to his Affiliate Dinner calendar. He's a wonderful soul.

It's CENTER. And color is COLOR.

Hmph.

But you Canadians are definitely a nicer bunch than most of us in the Great Dark South, eh. And I'd love universal health care.

I might come, depending on the location and time.

That'll be in the middle of two very busy weeks for me, with the mesh conference, SMX in Seattle, and then SES Toronto (plus one kid's birthday on the first day of SES, and another's on the second day!). I don't know how I'm going to get any work done. :confused2 party:

That's great.

So Welshie, I guess we better start planning the where and how and all that jazz, eh? We'll need to gauge interest so we can choose a venue accordingly (based on required space and availability of reservation).

I don't think we need anyone to plan any presentations unless they so choose, what do you folks think?

I think we were aiming for an informal get together to sit, break some bread together and just knock heads, have a laugh or two, am I on the right page?

[...] am I on the right page?
Yes. Unless you'd like me to wing it and do a presentation on whatever pops into my head at the time (I don't recommend this).

me: :ecomcity:

the rest of you: :stars:

Ha ha! Well said. I think that a good informal meet 'n greet 'n eat is the way to go.

Hey Ceri - I just learned that Al Augustin is a member of your organization now. Do you know him? He's an offline friend of ours (hubby and I) - very nice guy. :)

Let's just laugh, share beverages and get to know each other with no agenda.

I do recommend bringing business cards.

Once we get some numbers we can decide where to go...(no comment...lol)

Agreed. Open to suggestions. I've put a word out to some friends of mine in the biz so hopefully we'll get a decent turnout.

Suggestions:

A place to drink heavily, good eatin', not too far from the hotel I end up staying at, and no Karaoke.

Hey guys and gals, Liz (e-Gazer) mentioned that the event is now posted at http://www.affiliatedinner.com. The details (time, venue, address) are TBD right now at that site and it refers people back to this thread. Have there been any decisions yet on where and when, other than that it will be on June 11?
