Hi everyone!

I just finish a long semester of photographering (my invented word ;) ). School's out for summer! I'm so excited. Really.

I wanted to share with you one of my last assignments I had to do before finishing up. I had to build a website to show some of the pictures I had done this past year.

Now, though I am an affiliate manager, I have access to a wonderful design team to takes care of all my HTML-ing and image hosting needs. :)

Building this website assignment really did a number on me, I truly truly appreciate the work that goes into creating site from scratch! Shopping for good hosting packages, buying domain names and ugh, resizing images.

That being said, I'd love for you to take a peek at my work in progress:

Please be gentle, it's my first website. I have a disgusting amount of work to do on it so please stay tuned.

Cheers,
LE

Hey! You have a good eye!

You can look at something and know what part to photograph! That's a cool talent.

PS Jamie egged me on to put Robert.

You do have a good eye ;-)

one thing i did notice (amature photographer here) is that there are a few shots with soft focus. I had the same problem myself until i got glasses :-)

thanks mrbshouse!

most of my soft focus-ness is just me messing with my pics in photoshop. perhaps im subconsciously going against the HDTV trend, where everything is too sharp, you know?

i think soft focus in images (by mistake or on purpose) is good for the soul. :)

Very Nice

interesting choice ;-)

I noticed some of the shots had a great depth of field with a low f stop....technically correct, sharp focus where you want the attention and more professional IMHO

if your doing it in PS you might try softening zones rather than the whole image that is one way that designers are using totally sharp images to define depth using programs like flash.

but your right experiment and find your style and never look back ;-)

For sure!

I'll be starting on my graduating portfolio at the end of the summer. Photo shopping galore! :) Once the whole shebang is finished, I'll be sure to post my final images.

Thanks Billy K, MINDsprinter, Rhia7 and mrbshouse for taking a moment to check out my site.

Cheers,
LE

I should jump in and say that LE is THE best person to handle the camera at parties and get togethers. She always makes us look like we're glowing...by using great lighting! ;)

Also, some girls from Share Results participated in a photo shoot of sorts for one of LE's assignments:
Here, you'll find photos of Julia and I from that day: http://www.lemichellenguyen.com/personal_page3.html

Very interesting! I am a big traveller (well like you I am an Affiliate Manager) and I have very nice shots of my different road trips mainly in Australia where I stayed one year travelling all around this HUGE and beautiful continent.

I am fascinated by photography and would love to take a semester " "photographering " :rotflol: could u share info about the classes you had like why did you go to for this one, which field in particular would you advise an "amateur" to have?

I enjoyed your website, although of course I can t enjoy the technical side of the pictures...yet!

So basically you are going to keep it as a galery? Or are there new stuff coming up?

Anyway: :thumbup2: congratulations!

Leila: Some of the classes I am taking are/were: Professional Photo Practices - Business/Marketing, Applied Studio, Location Photography, Photo Imaging Lab.

My program is supposed to turn me into a mean, lean, well oiled professional photo taking machine. :P

But if you just want to take better photos, I can save you a lot of money and a lot of time by giving this advice:

Take your camera everywhere you go and shoot often.

You could take a course to refine your technical skills and to know how your camera works. But really, what I learned from doing these courses and just ‘photographering’ in general is that just because a picture is technically perfect, doesn’t necessarily make it a great photo. It could be a snooze fest. I’ve meet a lot of great photographers, and they all take fantastic photos. Though I’d be hard pressed to remember who took what images, you know?

My favorite class that I taken so far is Applied Photo Design. It was all theory but it showed me why we like the photos that we do (rule of thirds, lines, etc) and what the rules of photography are. You need to know the basic rules in order to break them and make them your own!

Don’t be scared about not know too much about the technical side of photography. You can’t beat the natural eye you have.

Finally, the best photo tip I hope everyone will use, is to edit, edit, edit. If you take 100 shots on a road trip, whittle it down your 15 best. Not only will it force you take out redundant photos but give your photos more impact.

Hope this helps. Free to email me about this picture taking stuff. ;P

And Susan, can’t stress it enough, miss you loads here too! When are you coming to visit us?

‘photographering’

What a great term. I, too, enjoy doing that. As you suggested, I do carry my camera with me much of the time. Even though it is rather large, I use it a LOT.

Your first site-building experience is cool. It reflects your talents with the camera, which are excellent. Your composition, cropping, color, texture and exposure choices all make up that "eye" that other posters have mentioned.

Fantastic work.

Thanks Beachy, I'm always shy sharing my minimal HTMLing skills with everyone. There's an abundance of webmasters/affiliates here who just get it (coding) you know?

Finally, if you know like my word "photographering", I usually couple that with "makeupery" when my make-up artist friend works with me on our collaborations (fashion photos).

When I call her I say, "It's that time again, me to get back to photographering and you to do your makeupery." Are we weird or what? Heehee.

I also say "goer-outer" a lot. Like, "I'm a goer-outer, you seem to be a stayer-at-homer."

Cheers,
LE

ya know, with all the information we can have on a website, i found yours to be refreshing in it's simplicity. I would not change a thing. The pictures are very artistic and expressive. Nice work on both! :artist:

Excellent! :applause:
I have found some great site with my celebrities photocollection (including my favourite Adriana Lima). Look at her.. she so beautiful (http://celeb-collection.awardspace.com/)!
So, it could be a snooze fest. I’ve meet a lot of great photographers, and they all take fantastic photos. Though I’d be hard pressed to remember who took what images!
