"The Empire State is being drained of an invaluable resource -- people," the report said.

What's worse is that the families fleeing New York are being replaced by lower-income newcomers, who consequently pay less in taxes.

Overall, the ex-New Yorkers earn about 13 percent more than those who moved into the state, the study found.

I posted this on my blogs but in case you haven't heard, there is a survey going on to try and guage the impact of the revised nexus law that went into effect last year in NY. Affiliate Summit has a short survey for New York affiliates that should only take a few minutes to complete. It would be helpful if anyone who was a NY Affiliate last year complete the survey.

Affiliate Summit is trying to determine the actual impact on NY affiliates. The more information we have the better. Survey is...

However, was listening to CEO of Overstock.com on Book TV this morning describing how they dropped all of their NY affiliates because of the new internet tax law. Left me feeling very discouraged. Wondering if I should still pursue. Will it be possible for someone just starting out to build a profitable MA business if they are a NY resident? Any opinions/ advice greatly appreciated...

Even though I am the one who got paid by the customer from NY who in turn paid the supplier to direct ship it to that customer....

would I or would I not owe taxes. I think its no. but with some states you never know....

It seems that NikeShop.com thinks the sales and use tax in NYC is 10.2..% instead of the actual 8.375% it currently is.

I was over charged 2 dollars in tax, and they basically said I probably will not get a refund because it's such a small amount.

My guess is their accounting team catches the overage and doesn't send it to NYS and instead gives it to their execs as bonuses. Just a theory.

Impact of sales tax collection on Amazon's NY state sales

I'm guessing this might not be public info, but it's very interesting to a lot of us to understand the impact of collecting sales tax on Amazon's sales volume.

Question: After Amazon started collecting sales tax (in NY for example), how much (as a percentage) did the total sales drop?

If there are any official/semi-official/third-party guesstimates that'd be useful too.

The reasons Amazon converts so well for a lot of affiliates are:

I'd like to find a list of all the publishers that moved out of NY due to the tax laws (and into another state that didn't have the Amazon Tax)?

I'd like to use to lobby against California enacting the same tax (to make the case that they'll lose more tax revenue than they'll gain since companies will leave the state).

Any suggestions?

Zazzle Steals from it's NYC Customers

Not sure if this is the right place, but Zazzle is stealing form it's NYC Customers.

In NYC there is no tax on clothing.

However on a 45.45 purchase they slapped me with 5.64 in tax. 8.375% of 45.45 is 2 dollars less than 5.64.

I had a 5 dollar coupon which brought the price down to 40.45 (the taxable amount).

However i had to pay an image conversion fee of 20 dollars (which isn't taxable because it isn't being shipped to NY it's being placed in an Image bin on their website).

I'm going to drop them an e-mail, but is it possible that an entire network threw out NY affiliates, and we missed it?
