Well, he is not physically hurt from the balloon incident itself, but psychologically I'm sure everything he is going through as a 6 year old will affect him more than just temporarily (especially if this is a hoax).

Everything about this thing reeks of publicity stunt.
1. What kind of family doesn't expect all of their little children present during the launch? My kids would kill me if I did something like that without them.
2. The construction of the balloon wouldn't have supported any kind of weight much less a moving 40lb child.
3. No screaming???
4. No suffication?
5. How would you enter a sealed balloon anyways?
6. They didn't know the 10lb ballon had quite a bit more weight when they carried it outside?
7. Media was there immediately
8. My personal judgement of character led me to believe someone wasn't telling the truth.
9. Boy says "He was told to do it for the show"
10. Come on a boy trapped in a balloon lol that just doesn't happen.

Btw, that guy likes to chase hurricanes with the kids on the car, he likes to swap his wife with another couple, and he likes to build UFOs... So what's next?
The movie of the week?

I have another twist...
Perhaps he wanted to boy to go into the balloon, "he was told to do it for the show", have the news capture him in this thing traveling and they would make news, applauded for new invention, etc. sell a book, sell movie rights, etc.
Instead, maybe the boy chickened out, climbed out and hid in the attic. Didn't want to come out otherwise he would get a whooping by his father.
Either way, I feel sorry for the kids. It just doesn't feel right what is going on here. I just feel very uncomfortable about this.

I agree that these parents are setting a horrible example for their kids. Kids trust their parents completely and they are teaching these kids that trickery and being fake is how to get ahead in life.
Makes me sad.

What's as strange is the local sheriff defending the family.

Alderden also confirmed that Heene's first call after the balloon's release was to a local television station. "His first call was to 9 News, second call was to FAA, and they called 911 some time after that," he said. But he defended the decision, saying that Heene knew that a news helicopter was needed immediately.
|
Uhhhh, the police don't have helicopters? According to one of the comments, the sheriff has his own agenda as well & is stepping up to claim his 15 mins. of fame.

...He had to start his own, privately funded Web site awhile ago because the county got sick of him using their official site to rant about guns and the War on Christmas

I feel so sorry for this kid and his brothers.

Here ya go. It takes a lot more that a 15 ft. mylar balloon to lift and carry a real person, even a child - especially at the high altitudes at which that hoax(?) flight began.
The guy that owns these balloons and the balloon ride business ( www.fun-flying.com) keeps his plane (the yellow Stearman biplane) at the same airport where I keep my plane. I'm looking forward to talking with him about this "event."

Oh I don't know. A 15ft mylar ballon filled with hydrogen might do it.
Have a bit more lift than hot air, after all.

The lifting power of 1 cubic foot of hydrogen gas is about 0.07 lb at 0C, 760 mm pressure.
15 ft diameter balloon is approximately 1100 cubic ft.
Lifting capacity is approximately 77 pounds at specified conditions, not adjusted for atmospheric conditions at time of flight.

Yeah, I had seen numbers like that, too. However, the shape of the balloon was not round, it was flattened, more "saucer-like," so the volume would be a bit less. And the altitude were they live is high enough to reduce air pressure/density - so buoyancy would be even further reduced, Then there is the weight of the envelope itself and the "container" that the child would have been in. All of that leaves very little "useful load," as we say in pilot jargon. Maybe an infant or a Barbie Doll. But a real child?
This thing had hoax written all over it from the git-go.

Bit of a farce
According to UK reports the parents kid did this a publicity stunt, is there any more news as in any legal actions that have taken place your side of the pond?
Seem rather media hungry odd people to me...And what did they expect to get out of this?
